Boko Haram’s Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has attacked a Nigerian Army base in Jakana, Borno State, killing an unconfirmed number of soldiers.

According to media reports, the insurgents invaded the community, shooting and using explosives, and also burnt armoured tanks and military vehicles, making away with ammunition.

The terrorists were said to have come in different groups and could not be counted.

Many soldiers were reportedly killed while others fled into the bush.

“An attack occurred this morning, 06/02/2025, at an Army outpost along Maiduguri/Damaturu Road, Jakana town, by Boko Haram terrorists, with many casualties recorded on our side. Their corpses have been transferred to 7 Div military hospital in Maiduguri,” a source familiar with the attack told Sahara Reporters.

This attack comes after recent killings of soldiers in Sabon Gari and an ambush that killed seven personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel.

ISWAP has been deepening its grip around Lake Chad since Abubakar Shekau’s death, with increased membership from defected Boko Haram fighters.
