JUST IN: Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla dumps PDP, set to join ADC coalition
DDM News

(DDM) – Former Governor of Adamawa State and Senator, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, popularly known as Bindow, has officially resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the resignation was conveyed in a formal letter dated July 21, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Kollere Ward, Mubi-North Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The letter was received and acknowledged by Adamu Iya, the Kollere Ward Chairman, on the same day.
See a copy of the letter below:
Senator Jibrilla, who governed Adamawa State from 2015 to 2019 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before joining the PDP, stated that his decision was not made lightly.
In the resignation letter, the former governor expressed gratitude for the opportunities the PDP had given him to contribute to its goals and democratic mission.
He noted that his time in the PDP provided him with valuable insights into grassroots mobilization and party-building.
Jibrilla, however, explained that it was time to pursue other political and personal commitments that align more closely with his current priorities.
He said while he still deeply respects the PDP’s legacy, his journey now calls for a new political direction.
“I wish the PDP continued success in its mission to serve the Nigerian people and strengthen our democracy,” he wrote.
Sources close to the former governor have confirmed that he is on track to officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which is reportedly building momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His move is being interpreted as part of a broader political realignment across Northern Nigeria, especially in the North-East geopolitical zone.
Observers say Bindow’s defection could influence political calculations in Adamawa State and potentially reshape alliances within opposition structures.
This is not the first time Senator Jibrilla has made a significant political move.
He was originally elected governor under the APC but fell out with key stakeholders during his tenure.
After losing his re-election bid in 2019, he gradually withdrew from APC activities and joined the PDP in what was seen as a quiet political recalibration.
Now, with his exit from the PDP, Jibrilla appears to be positioning himself as a central figure in the emerging ADC coalition, which aims to unite disaffected politicians from both APC and PDP.
Party sources claim that the coalition is in talks with other former governors, senators, and youth-driven movements to build a credible third-force alternative.
Jibrilla’s political clout, especially in Adamawa Central and Northern zones, could serve as a major asset to any opposition bloc ahead of 2027.
As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift, the coming weeks may reveal more about the strategy and structure behind his next move.
For now, his resignation marks yet another high-profile exit from the PDP at a time the party is struggling to consolidate internal unity and national relevance.
