Political parties across Nigeria, under the umbrella of the Forum of National Chairmen of Political Parties (NCPP), have announced plans to hold a nationwide rally on January 10, 2026, in support of the Federal Government’s newly introduced tax regime.

The parties said the rally is aimed at demonstrating broad political backing for the reforms, which they described as a national economic policy that transcends partisan interests.

Speaking after an extensive consultative meeting, the NCPP, led by its chairman, Barrister Uche Nnadi, said the tax reforms should not be reduced to political contestation, given Nigeria’s current economic realities.

According to the forum, the new tax framework is designed to broaden the country’s revenue base, reduce dependence on borrowing, strengthen fiscal discipline and enhance the capacity of government at all levels to deliver infrastructure, social services and economic opportunities.

“This new tax regime under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is not the agenda of any single political party.

It is a national economic necessity whose benefits will be felt across generations,” the forum said in a joint statement.

The NCPP said the January 10 rally would be peaceful, inclusive and non-partisan, providing a platform to educate Nigerians on the long-term benefits of the reforms and to mobilise public support for their implementation.

While acknowledging that tax reforms can be challenging, the political leaders stressed the importance of informed dialogue, patience and national unity in navigating the transition.

The forum also distanced itself from what it described as attempts by anti-democratic elements to exploit the tax reforms for political incitement, misinformation or unrest.

“We unequivocally dissociate ourselves from any plot to weaponise the tax regime for political chaos. Such actions pose a threat to democratic stability and national cohesion,” the statement said.

The NCPP called on youths, labour unions, civil society organisations, market associations and the organised private sector to approach the reforms with a long-term perspective focused on national development.

The forum further urged government agencies implementing the reforms to ensure transparency, fairness and sensitivity, noting that public trust is critical to the success of any economic policy.

Reaffirming their commitment to democracy, peace and economic stability, the political parties said unity around key national reforms remains essential for Nigeria’s progress.

“Nigeria’s future depends on our ability to rise above partisan divisions and act in the national interest. The new tax regime represents such a moment,” the forum said.
