Rangers International FC of Enugu has officially extended the contract of their promising midfielder, Evans Ogbonda, by an additional two years.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the 22-year-old star, who joined the Flying Antelopes from Bendel Insurance in 2024, was a regular feature in coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s tactical setup during the recently concluded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Ogbonda’s strong performances in midfield earned him the trust of the coaching crew and the admiration of fans, leading to a swift move by club management to secure his services for the foreseeable future.

The new deal is seen as a significant boost for Rangers, who are hoping to build on their last season’s campaign and challenge for silverware in the upcoming NPFL season.

Although Rangers fell short of clinching the title last term, the consistency of players like Ogbonda was a key highlight for the club.

Speaking after signing the deal, Ogbonda expressed joy and optimism about continuing his career in Enugu.

“It’s an honour to keep wearing this jersey,” he said.
“I believe the best is yet to come with this team.”

Club officials say the contract extension reflects Rangers’ strategy of retaining young, dynamic talents who understand the team’s playing philosophy.

Sources close to the club hint that more signings are in the pipeline, as Rangers prepare to bolster the squad with experienced reinforcements and youthful depth before the 2025/2026 season kicks off.

With the new NPFL campaign set to begin in the coming weeks, Rangers fans are already hopeful that the club’s proactive moves in the transfer window, including securing key players like Ogbonda, will signal a return to glory.

Ogbonda’s development at Rangers has also caught the eye of national team scouts, raising the possibility of a Super Eagles call-up if his form continues.

As the Flying Antelopes continue pre-season training, insiders say that the coaching staff is confident that keeping the core of last season’s squad intact will help build chemistry and increase the team’s chances of a stronger league run.

With Ogbonda now committed to the club until at least 2027, all eyes are on how his presence can shape Rangers’ midfield in the quest for another NPFL title.
