Sixteen lawmakers in Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The move, announced during Friday’s plenary session, was attributed to a “clear division” within the PDP.
The defectors, loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, now bolster the APC’s influence in the state legislature, amid ongoing political tensions between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
