Nigerian security operatives have reportedly arrested Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, the head of the Palestinian community in Nigeria.

His family disclosed that he was picked up at his Abuja residence on Friday, August 22, by men who introduced themselves as members of an anti-terrorism squad.

Relatives told SaharaReporters that Mr. Abu Ibrahim’s whereabouts remain unknown.

They also said security agents gave no reason for his arrest, sparking concerns within his community.

An official from the Palestinian Embassy in Abuja confirmed awareness of the arrest but said details remain sketchy.

“Yes, we heard about it and we are still trying to process the information,” the official said.

Mr. Abu Ibrahim has lived in Nigeria for several decades and is widely recognized in local media and by public figures as the leader of the Palestinian community in the country.

His relatives suggested that his detention may be connected to his recent public advocacy against Israeli strikes on Gaza, particularly attacks on journalists and civilians. However, this claim could not be independently verified.

The arrest comes at a time when global outrage against Israel’s war in Gaza continues to grow.

Diaspora Digital Media reported that on Monday, August 25, Israeli airstrikes targeted Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, killing at least 15 to 20 people, including several journalists.

Among the victims were Hussam al-Masri, a Reuters contractor; Mariam Dagga, an Associated Press freelancer; and Mohammed Salama of Al Jazeera. Reuters photographer Hatem Khaled was also injured in the attack.

International human rights experts have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.
