JUST IN: Super Eagles goalkeeper, Okoye out of Ghana clash due to illness

Ahead of the world cup playoff between Ghana and Nigeria, the Nigeria Football Federation has announced that Maduka Okoye, the number one choice goal keeper of the Super Eagles will not be available for the clash because of illness.

The new development was confirmed in a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the NFF.

NFF in the statement said Enyimba goal keeper, John Noble has been chosen as his replacement.

“Update! Maduka Okoye out of the clash against Ghana due to illness, he has been replaced by Enyimba FC goalkeeper, John Noble. Get well soon Maduks! #SoarSuperEagles

However, Nigeria will take on Ghana away on Friday 25th March, with the reverse leg set for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th March from 6pm.

The winner over two legs will earn one of Africa’s five tickets to the 22nd FIFA World Cup finals, scheduled for 14th November – 18th December this year in Qatar.

The team revealed on its official Twitter handle Sunday evening that Innocent Bonke will replace the injured Wilfred Ndidi in the squad.

Bonke plays as a midfielder for Ligue 1 club, Lorient.

Ndidi picked up a knee injury in Leicester’s Europa Conference League game with Rennes.

Leicester City coach, Brendan Rodgers confirmed Ndidi’s injury in his post-match after th Foxes advanced into the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate despite losing the second leg 2-1.
