Just In: Supreme Court upholds Okorocha’s victory in Imo guber

The Supreme Court of the federation has upheld the victory of Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha in the April 11 Imo State gubernatorial election.

The apex court dismissed the petition filed by Chief Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].

While rendering judgement, the Supreme Court leaned its judgement on non-usage of card reader while declaring Rochas Okorocha winner of the governorship election.

The judgement says in part:

“If INEC guideline says, take materials by helicopter to the polling unit. And the materials eventually got to the polling unit by boat. 

“This cannot therefore nullify the elections.”

“Therefore the use of card reader, is merely a guideline alien to the electoral act, and cannot constitute the basis to invalidate an election. 

“The appeal of the petitioner Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is hereby dismissed. And Mr. Rochas Okorocha is hereby declared winner of the Imo state governorship election”
