JUST IN: Tension at PDP HQ as Security Forces Shut Down BoT Meeting

In a dramatic turn of events, heavily armed security operatives stormed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, June, 30, 2024, and barred members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) from holding a scheduled meeting intensifying tensions within Nigeria’s main opposition party.
DailyTrust reported that security agents arrived at the PDP headquarters in Abuja in large numbers and ordered all BoT members and staff out of the National Executive Committee (NEC) hall, where the high-level meeting was to take place.
“Make sure nobody is in the hall there. That is the instruction. I heard there is another hall upstairs. Make sure nobody is meeting there,” a senior officer was overheard instructing his team.
Some BoT members were seen outside the building in hushed conversations, visibly stunned by the last-minute clampdown.
Secret Orders, Divided Camps
Daily Trust gathered that the operatives were acting under firm orders to ensure no meeting takes place at the party headquarters.
The source of the directive remains unclear, though it is believed to be linked to the deepening crisis over the PDP’s national leadership.
PDP has remained in disarray since the controversial 2023 presidential primaries.
The latest flashpoint involves a battle over who occupies the office of National Secretary, with acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum and Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, reportedly leading rival factions of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Crisis Without End?
Today’s forced shutdown of a BoT meeting—the party’s top advisory body—marks a fresh low in what analysts are calling “a leadership meltdown” within the opposition party.
The BoT, often seen as the party’s moral compass, has struggled to mediate growing internal divisions in recent months.
No official statement has yet been issued by the PDP leadership or the security agencies involved in the operation.
