Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned President Bola Tinubu’s administration that it will cripple the economy if its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, is arrested by the police.
This is coming after the police on Monday night, summoned the Labour leader for interrogation over allegations of terrorism financing.
The NLC Deputy President, Kabiru Ado Sani, stated that the invitation to Ajaero was seen as an invitation to all workers and that the NLC would honor the invitation but needed more
time from the police to consult with its lawyers.
Sani stated, “As a committed labour center, we are abiding by the rule of law and due process. We will honor the police invitation but are requesting more time for legal consultations. However, this does not legitimize the charges against our Congress leadership.”
He also warned that if Ajaero is arrested or detained, the NLC will call for a nationwide strike.
Sani added, “We put our affiliates on red alert to mobilize workers to down tools if our Congress President is arrested,” Sani said. He assured the workers that further directives would be communicated as the situation develops.
The NLC urged workers to remain calm and await further instructions from their leadership.
