Kalu is a bridge builder, correcting political mistakes of S’east — Bishop Eke
Abia born cleric, Bishop Silas Eke has commended former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, calling him a true patriot and bridge builder working to correct the political isolation of the South East in Nigeria’s national politics.
In a strong statement, Bishop Eke said Senator Kalu’s open and strategic support for President Bola Tinubu is aimed at securing a more inclusive future for the Igbo people, noting that Kalu has always placed the interest of the South East above personal gain.
“This is what Senator Kalu is helping us to avoid — the political mistakes of the Igbos. He loves his people and he does not want them to be left behind in the scheme of things,” Bishop Eke said.
While highlighting Kalu’s track record, Bishop Eke recalled his remarkable tenure as Governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007. Under his administration, Abia witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He constructed major roads across the state, revitalized public schools, and ensured timely payment of workers’ salaries — all of which earned him the support of the masses.
“From his days as governor, Senator Kalu has been our voice. He opened up rural communities with roads, rebuilt schools, and uplifted the common man. That is someone who truly loves his people,” Bishop Eke emphasized.
The bishop noted that Kalu’s current mission is to prevent the South East from being politically sidelined again in the 2027 elections by mobilizing support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“He is doing all he is doing to help us not make political mistakes in 2027. He wants us to be part of the centre just like Ojukwu did when he returned to Nigeria and joined the ruling government,” he added.
Bishop Eke called on Ndigbo to support Kalu’s efforts and avoid the repeated political miscalculations that have left the South East with little federal presence since 2015.
“Senator Kalu is showing us the way forward. His love for the Igbo people is evident in both his words and actions. It’s time to listen and act wisely,” Bishop Eke concluded.
