Kane, Dier make history in Bundesliga with Bayern Munich
Harry Kane and Eric Dier made history by combining for a goal in the Bundesliga, marking the first time Englishmen achieved this feat in the league.
In the 15th minute, Kane opened the scoring for Bayern Munich against SC Freiburg, leading to a 2-1 victory.
On the right side of the pitch, Dier skillfully passed to Kane, who expertly turned and shot into the bottom corner of Noah Atubolu’s net.
This goal represented Kane’s 17th league strike of the season, bringing him closer to the coveted Bundesliga golden boot.
Notably, this goal ended Kane’s unusual two-month drought without scoring from open play.
His closest rival for the trophy, Omar Marmoush, recently transferred from Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City for £59 million.
In the 54th minute, Kim Min-jae scored again, doubling Bayern’s lead.
Although Freiburg managed to score shortly after, it was merely a consolation goal for them.
Before the match, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, addressed concerns regarding Kane’s goal drought.
He reassured fans, stating, “Harry is the least of my worries,” emphasizing Kane’s experience and resilience.
Eberl acknowledged Kane’s struggles but noted that injuries played a role in his performance.
He expressed confidence in Kane, stating that the striker is likely his own harshest critic.
Despite facing criticism since joining Germany, Kane has impressively netted 66 goals in 69 matches.
Meanwhile, Dier has also faced scrutiny but remains an essential player for Bayern, especially with key defenders unavailable.
Vincent Kompany praised Dier’s experience, saying, “Players like Eric have character and always prioritise the team.”
Kane and Dier, former teammates at Tottenham, have yet to win silverware with Bayern.
However, Bayern Munich currently sits six points clear at the top of the table, following Bayer Leverkusen’s draw with RB Leipzig.
