The Kano State Government has pledged to rehabilitate over 1,300 political thugs who have voluntarily surrendered their arms and committed to ending violence and criminality.

Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya, announced this during a one-day interface with cluster leaders under the Safe Corridor Project held in Kano on Monday.

The initiative aims to reintegrate the repentant youths into society through empowerment programs designed to make them self-reliant and productive.

Waiya explained that the project involves profiling, screening, and rehabilitation with support from security agencies, emphasizing its focus on tackling insecurity and youth restiveness in the state.

“This is an independent initiative addressing the menace of thuggery and other antisocial behaviors. It is non-political and solely aimed at offering youths an opportunity to turn a new leaf and contribute positively to society,” Waiya stated.

He added that security agencies would screen the youths to ensure that only those genuinely committed to reform are included.
