Kebbi ADC Suspends Chairman and Top Officials

The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has removed its top leaders from office, citing allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of authority, and poor leadership.
During a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the State Publicity Secretary, Jamilu Muhammad, announced the suspension of Chairman Sufiyanu Bala, Deputy Chairman Junaidu Muhammed Mudi, and Secretary Hawwa’u Muhammed.
The announcement followed what he described as extensive consultations with key party stakeholders across the state.
Muhammad accused the suspended leaders of diverting party funds for personal gain.
He also claimed they frequently made unilateral decisions without the consent of the State Working Committee, violating internal processes.
According to him, the officials failed to uphold the ADC’s principles of transparency, accountability, and unity.
“They have failed to position the ADC for political relevance in Kebbi State,” Muhammad stated.
He further alleged that the suspended officers undermined the party’s growth by ignoring grassroots mobilisation efforts and alienating committed members.
In response to the leadership vacuum, the ADC appointed Abdulrazaq Abubakar Isah Iko as Acting Chairman and Adamu Aliyu as Acting Secretary.
The new appointees will steer the party’s affairs until the state chapter conducts fresh internal elections.
Furthermore, the ADC leadership cautioned the public against conducting any official transactions with the suspended members.
The party also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to clamp down on early political campaigns in Kebbi State, which it said would be a breach of the Electoral Act.
Party insiders revealed that tensions had been brewing for months over alleged mismanagement of campaign resources.
Several members had accused the suspended executives of sidelining them during decision-making, which reportedly led to a loss of trust within the party’s ranks.
Meanwhile, political observers believe the development could affect the ADC’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Some argue the shake-up might pave the way for reform and strengthen internal discipline, while others fear it could deepen existing divisions within the party.
The suspended officials have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
However, sources close to them suggest they may challenge the suspension, potentially setting the stage for a legal or internal party battle.
With these changes, the ADC leadership in Kebbi faces the dual challenge of restoring unity and regaining public confidence, even as the clock ticks toward Nigeria’s next election season.
