BIRNIN KEBBI, Kebbi State — The Kebbi State by-election for the Zuru State Constituency seat concluded peacefully on Saturday, with the collation of results now underway across the constituency, according to officials and observers who monitored the exercise.

The election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly following the death of the incumbent lawmaker. Voters across the constituency turned out to cast their ballots in an exercise that was largely free of violence or major disruptions.

Reports from various polling units indicated that the election proceeded smoothly, with security personnel deployed to strategic locations to maintain order and ensure a peaceful environment. The Independent National Electoral Commission also deployed adequate materials and personnel to facilitate the process.

The Kebbi State Police Command had earlier assured residents of robust security arrangements before, during, and after the election, with a restriction of vehicular movement enforced to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The command warned political thugs and troublemakers to steer clear of the election, vowing to deal decisively with anyone caught attempting to disrupt the process.

Voter turnout was described as moderate, with some polling units recording higher participation than others. Election observers from various civil society organisations were present across the constituency to monitor the process and ensure adherence to electoral guidelines.
