ABUJA, NIGERIA — A one-year-old girl reportedly among a group of abducted victims is said to be in critical condition, with concerns mounting that she may require urgent medical attention after spending days in captivity under harsh conditions.
According to a distress message circulating on social media, the young child is among several individuals allegedly held in a forested area for about 16 days. The message claims the captives have been subjected to severe environmental conditions, including heavy rainfall and extreme heat, with limited access to food, water, and medical care. It further alleges that the child’s health has deteriorated significantly, raising fears over her survival if immediate intervention is not provided.
The same message also states that a group of teachers and pupils were abducted during the incident. It claims that seven teachers were initially taken, with one, identified as Mr. Oyedokun M. O., reportedly having died while in captivity. The post further alleges that six teachers remain held alongside the abducted children. These details, however, have not been independently verified by authorities or security agencies.
In addition, the message suggests that kidnappers may have released a photograph of the sick child on social media, a development that has intensified public concern and emotional reactions across online platforms. The claim has not yet been confirmed, and officials have not authenticated the image or the circumstances surrounding it.
The author of the viral message is calling on the Nigerian government and security agencies to take immediate action to rescue the victims. The appeal stresses the urgency of the situation, warning that further delay could result in additional loss of life. It also urges widespread sharing of the information in order to draw national and international attention to the alleged incident.
“These children are our future,” the message stated, emphasizing the emotional toll on families and communities affected by the reported abduction. It appealed for swift intervention and prayers for the safe return of all those reportedly in captivity.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the details contained in the circulating message. Authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement addressing the claims of deaths, medical conditions, or the exact number of victims involved.
Nigeria continues to grapple with incidents of kidnapping in several regions, particularly targeting schools and rural communities. Such cases have prompted repeated calls for strengthened security measures and faster response operations to protect vulnerable populations.
While public concern continues to grow over the unverified account, officials are being urged to investigate the situation urgently and provide clear information to the public regarding the safety and whereabouts of those allegedly abducted.
