President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists that killed several villagers in Worro community.
The attack, which targeted Muslims who refused to adopt extremist ideology, has been condemned by the President as “cowardly and beastly”.
Tinubu directed the new military formation to spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at crushing terrorist elements and protecting vulnerable communities.
He commended the community members for refusing to be conscripted into a violent extremist ideology, saying “It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promotes violence over peace and dialogue”.
The President called for collaboration between federal and state security agencies to provide relief to affected residents and bring perpetrators to justice.
He offered condolences to bereaved families and the people and government of Kwara State.
