The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, has reaffirmed the validity of its November 1, 2025 election that produced a new executive council led by Comrade Biola Azeez as chairman.
The resolution was part of a communiqué issued at the end of the Chapel’s inaugural congress held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at its secretariat in Ilorin.
Members pledged full support to the new leadership and commended the peaceful conduct of the election, supervised by a committee chaired by Alhaji Hammed Shittu of ThisDay Newspaper.
The Congress also appreciated the NUJ State Council for its oversight and goodwill, describing the process as a show of unity and maturity.
Reaffirming its focus on members’ welfare and safety, the new executive vowed to engage security agencies and relevant institutions to ensure journalists’ protection and improved working conditions.
The Chapel also announced a three-man communiqué drafting committee comprising Alhaji Mansur Aramide (The Guardian), Nicholas Uwerunonye (Daily Independent), and Mosunmola Ayobami (Western Post).
Meanwhile, the Congress mourned the passing of veteran sports journalist Yusuf Feruke, extending condolences to his family and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter.
