Labour Party crisis: Nenadi begs angry members for unity
DDM News

The interim factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has called on aggrieved members of the party to set aside their differences and work towards the unity of the party.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the former minister made this passionate appeal during a press briefing held in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Senator Usman addressed the current political climate in Nigeria, warning that the country is experiencing the most severe economic hardship in its democratic history.
She blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what she described as “the highest level of poverty” ever recorded under any administration.
According to her, the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians have become unbearable, with many families unable to afford basic food, healthcare, and transportation.
She lamented the failure of the APC-led federal government to address inflation, youth unemployment, and insecurity.
Usman emphasized that the Labour Party was founded to serve as a people-focused alternative capable of transforming the country’s fortunes.
She reiterated the Labour Party’s commitment to restoring good governance, reviving the national economy, and returning power to the people.
While acknowledging the frustrations and grievances within her party, she appealed to all factions and discontented members to come together and prioritize national interest above personal ambition.
“I appeal to all aggrieved members to sheath their swords and work towards unity,” she stated, adding that party rebuilding efforts are already underway.
She revealed that the National Executive Council (NEC) had approved key activities including membership revalidation, ward congresses, and the forthcoming national convention.
These efforts, she said, are designed to strengthen the Labour Party’s internal democracy and prepare it to compete effectively in future elections.
On the issue of mass defections from opposition parties to the ruling APC, Senator Usman condemned the trend as morally wrong and legally questionable.
She argued that political cross-carpeting undermines the credibility of the democratic process and betrays the trust of voters who elected candidates based on their original party platforms.
According to her, such defections are often motivated by personal interests rather than national progress.
Despite these challenges, Usman insisted that the Labour Party remains unshaken and grounded in grassroots support.
She affirmed that the party draws strength not from high-ranking defectors but from the loyalty of ordinary Nigerians who believe in its message of hope and justice.
Usman’s remarks come at a critical time for the Labour Party, which has been grappling with internal divisions, leadership disputes, and pressure to maintain its relevance ahead of the next general election cycle.
Analysts believe her call for unity may help consolidate the party’s base and prevent further fragmentation.
As the party prepares for its national convention, the success of reconciliation efforts could determine the strength of its presidential campaign and legislative push in the months ahead.
