Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North under the Labour Party (LP), has passed away, a development confirmed by fellow lawmakers who expressed shock and sorrow over his sudden demise.
The news was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja through separate statements by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC – Abia North) and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP – Kogi Central), both of whom paid heartfelt tributes to their late colleague.
In his condolence message, Senator Kalu described the loss as a “painful blow” that left him deeply devastated.
He reflected on his close bond with Ezea, which he said was built on mutual respect, brotherhood, and shared faith.
Kalu recalled their moments of fellowship during Mass at the Senate’s Catholic chapel, describing Ezea as a man of humility, integrity, and unwavering devotion to service.
“The Senate has lost a principled voice, one who contributed with clarity, courage, and conviction,” Kalu said, extending his condolences to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Peter Mbah, the Nsukka community, and Ezea’s family. He praised Ezea’s legacy of dedication to his constituents and his faith, adding, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also paid tribute, posting on her Facebook page: “Rest in peace, Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. You were a good man — wise and gentle. Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers.”
She expressed solidarity with the people of Enugu North, acknowledging the profound loss of their senator.
Ezea’s passing marks a significant loss for his constituents and the nation, as colleagues mourn a man remembered for his calm demeanor, dedication to service, and strong principles.
