The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Julius Abure, has reaffirmed the party’s support for Ndigbo in 2027.

Abure stated that the party is committed to helping the Southeast produce Nigeria’s president in the upcoming general election.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reviled that he maintained that the LP had no regrets zoning its 2023 presidential ticket to the Southeast region of the country.

The party chairman urged Southeast leaders to strengthen alliances with other regions to improve their politcal chances in 2027.

His remarks were made in a statement released on Sunday by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.

The statement followed a rally organized in Abuja by Southeast LP members living in the Federal Capital Territory.

The rally was held ahead of the Area Council election scheduled to take place early next year.

Speaking to party members and aspirants, Abure assured them of free, fair, and credible primaries for the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that there would be no imposition of candidates, as the party remained committed to democratic principles.

Abure recalled that before the 2023 election, he mistakenly believed that the Igbos were not politically united.

His perspective changed after Peter Obi joined the party and he campaigned across Nigeria for the 2023 presidential election.

“Before the 2023 election, I erroneously believed that Igbos were not united,” Abure stated during his address.

“However, after Peter Obi joined the Labour Party, I discovered they are the most united, industrious, and fearless people,” he added.

He further noted that the decision to field an Igbo candidate in 2023 was to acknowledge their contributions to Nigeria.

“That is why I have no regrets that, despite all odds, we zoned our 2023 presidential ticket to the Southeast,” he said.

“We made a conscious effort to address the historical grievances of the Igbos, and we courageously took that stand,” he emphasized.

Abure urged Ndigbo to remain politically engaged and work toward strengthening their political influence nationwide.

He advised them to learn from the Yoruba political strategy before and after Nigeria’s independence.

Strong regional unity, combined with national collaboration, would enhance their chances of producing Nigeria’s next president, he stated.

The Labour Party’s reaffirmation of support for an Igbo presidency could significantly influence the 2027 election landscape.
