Gunmen attacked the convoy of former Anambra Governor Chris Ngige on Wednesday along the Nkpor-Nnobi road, leaving one woman dead and several others injured.
The attackers, dressed in police and military uniforms, shot a policeman in the pilot car, taking his gun and uniform.
The woman who died was filming the incident, while a shop owner who rushed to the scene was hit by bullets but is expected to recover after surgery.
Ngige, who wasn’t in the convoy, has promised medical care for the injured and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
Ikenga Tochukwu, the spokesman of Anambra State Police command, also confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that officers recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV allegedly stolen by the attackers during the ambush.
