The Lagos State House of Assembly has intensified security protocols in anticipation of the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa’s return.
On Sunday, January 26, the acting clerk, Omotayo Adekemi, informed that all staff and legislative aides will undergo rigorous security screenings before entering the complex.
Moreover, the notice required staff and aides to show valid identity cards to security personnel for entry.
“In line with management directives, all staff members and legislative aides must present valid identity cards for access.
Entry will be denied to anyone without a valid ID. We appreciate your cooperation,” the statement emphasized.
Obasa was impeached while in the United States, leading to the appointment of deputy speaker Mojisola Meranda.
Upon returning, Obasa held a press conference at the Ikeja lodge, asserting that his impeachment was unconstitutional and pledging to resume duties on Monday, January 27.
In light of this, the new Speaker, Meranda, has implemented heightened security within the Assembly to prevent disruptions.
Reports indicate that the new Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Meranda, has instructed security personnel to stay vigilant to avoid potential chaos or violence from Obasa’s supporters.
Furthermore, she has requested a rotation of security staff within the premises as a precautionary measure.
