Lagos OEQA granted Provisional Approval Letters to 70 private schools, boosting educational standards statewide.
This includes 41 Nursery/Primary and 29 Junior/Senior Secondary Schools, expanding diverse learning options across Lagos.
By streamlining approvals, the OEQA underscores Lagos’ commitment to quality education while addressing rising academic demands. During Wednesday’s ceremony at Ojodu’s Education Resource Centre, officials marked progress toward statewide educational excellence.
Mr. Sesan Ogundeko praised public-private collaboration, highlighting private schools’ role and pledging continued government support to enhance sector-wide growth.
Ogundeko highlighted that the rigorous approval process is designed to ensure compliance with state educational standards and uphold excellence.
“Lagos continues prioritizing education; we will collaborate with private institutions to build quality learning environments for children—our state’s future,” he declared.
Additionally, he praised the OEQA team for tirelessly upholding high standards in Lagos schools.
Echoing this, OEQA Coordinating Director Mr. Remi Abdul stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable, quality education for every Lagos child.
He revealed that out of over 100 applicants for the provisional approval, only 70 schools met the stringent criteria.
The comprehensive approval process included online registration, site inspections, approval visits, and thorough documentation.
Abdul stressed the importance of adherence to educational laws and policies, particularly those related to child protection and safeguarding.
He issued a strong warning that any violations could result in severe sanctions, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to student welfare.
Dr. Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, Director of Private Education and Special Programmes, congratulated the school owners on their achievement and encouraged them to maintain the high standards established during the approval process.
He also commended his department for their dedication to promoting quality education in private schools.
Representing the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Peter Adefioye delivered a goodwill message on behalf of Executive Director Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu.
He noted that obtaining official approval enhances a school’s credibility and reputation.
“This development not only boosts the institution’s standing but also serves as an advertisement for attracting more students.
The ministry now displays approved school names on JSSE certificates, reinforcing their credibility and academic standing,” he stated.
Private school proprietors warmly thanked officials after receiving provisional approval letters, celebrating their validated inclusion.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ehi Antoinette Nwanoeze of Russell College hailed the recognition as proof of her school’s commitment to Lagos’s standards.
Similarly, Mrs. Adeogo Omenebele-Eunice praised the approval process’s rigor and thanked the state government for prioritizing quality education.
Ultimately, the event underscores Lagos State’s efforts to collaborate with private institutions while upholding strict policies to ensure educational excellence.
