Lagos government shuts down six churches over noise pollution

The Lagos State Government, through its Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has closed at least six churches in the state due to noise pollution concerns.

The affected churches include the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Dominion City Church, Red Bar, Farm City, The Odyssey Apartments, Acuma Event Centre, and Fortunes Shortlet Apartment.

This move follows the agency’s actions late last year when it sealed branches of religious centers, including RCCG, for similar environmental offenses.

The structures that have been shut down are situated in various areas, including Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Lekki, and Ajah in the Lagos Island axis.

LASEPA, in an announcement on its official handle, emphasized that the closures align with its mandate to protect the environment from noise pollution and other infractions.

The sealed establishments encompass a diverse range, including a lounge, bar, event center, churches, and residential apartments.

The affected establishments are Red Bar, Farm City, The Odyssey Apartments, Acuma Event Centre, Dominion City Church, Redeemed Christian Church of God (The New Covenant Assembly), and Fortunes Shortlet Apartment.

“These measures by the state government have become necessary to address identified instances of noise pollution and other environmental violations,” stated LASEPA.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, sustainable environment that is safer, cleaner, and environmentally friendly.
