The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has set up four new intelligent transport system sites.
This move aims to improve road safety in the state. Officials hope these sites will make a big difference.
On Thursday, Osiyemi spoke to reporters. He praised Huawei Technologies for working with the transportation ministry.
Their joint efforts focus on making traffic flow better in Lagos.
The new systems will work together with tools already in place. These include cameras that can read license plates .
Other traffic management solutions will also team up with the new sites.
Osiyemi highlighted that these installations will promote safer driving practices while ensuring efficient traffic flow through real-time monitoring.
Osiyemi explained that new checkpoint sites for speed monitoring have been strategically established at Alapere and Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.
At Alapere, the speed limit is set at 80 km/h, while Nitel has a limit of 60 km/h.
Additionally, these sites were chosen due to high traffic volumes and prevalent speeding.
This is a leading cause of road accidents in the area.
“The checkpoint sites for speed detection are vital in our efforts to reduce speeding incidents,” Osiyemi stated.
Speeding remains a significant factor in road accidents; consequently, these installations intend to effectively deter reckless driving behaviors.
He also revealed the locations of more e-police stations newly opened in installations of sophisticated cameras at Allen Avenue Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road.
These newly munificent centers will allow active monitoring of traffic violations, which HD technology captures as unimpeachable evidence-from U-turns to stopping at red lights.
They will assist in augmenting the recently implemented traffic systems.
Authorities plan to upgrade older tech like automatic number plate recognition.
They’ll also improve existing traffic management solutions. These updates aim to enhance overall system performance and efficiency.
Furthermore, Osiyemi outlined the penalties for traffic offenses, stating that running a red light incurs a N20,000 fine.
Additionally, exceeding the maximum speed limits results in a N50,000 penalty.
This approach aims to reinforce compliance with traffic regulations among drivers.
“The implementation of these digital installations is a proactive step towards improving road safety in Lagos,” he added. Osiyemi reaffirmed their commitment to reducing reckless driving and enhancing the overall traffic experience for all road users.
As Lagos continues to face traffic congestion and road safety challenges, introducing these intelligent transport systems marks a pivotal advancement.
What’s more, these systems will make roads safer and manage traffic better throughout the city.
People expect to see big improvements in these areas.
This initiative reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to create a safer and more efficient transportation network for its residents.
