Lagos State trains house managers, stakeholders on student safety in Model colleges
On February 14, 2025, the Lagos State Safety Commission reaffirmed its commitment to student safety in Model Colleges.
During a specialized training program, house managers, food vendors, and stakeholders collaborated to enhance boarding school safety measures.
Speaking at the “Safety Sensitization” event, Technical Adviser Mr. Seun Awojobi emphasized prioritizing student well-being.
He further highlighted the government’s dedication to fostering secure learning environments for all learners.
“Our government ensures the safety of our students is never compromised.
We commit to providing a secure environment for students to learn and grow,” stated Mojola.
He further emphasized the vital roles that house managers and food vendors play in maintaining safety standards within boarding schools.
The Lagos State government enforces this training program to ensure schools strictly follow safety protocols, reinforcing broader safety initiatives.
Additionally, Mojola urged participants to act as “the eyes and ears,” stressing the need to identify risks and implement preventive measures effectively.
“Together, we can build a safe and secure environment for our students to thrive,” he remarked confidently.
Recently, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, Ogun State’s Special Adviser on Education and former Director-General of Lagos Education Quality Assurance, delivered a compelling session.
In her presentation, she highlighted vital elements such as quality service delivery, effective housekeeping, emotional intelligence, and crowd control in boarding schools. Furthermore, she underscored the need to prioritize students’ physical safety and emotional well-being.
Moreover, Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi, a retired Director of Public Safety and Wellbeing, presented a comprehensive paper detailing food safety and hygiene protocols.
Firstly, he outlined effective risk identification strategies and stressed the importance of diligent safety protocols.
Additionally, he emphasized proactive hazard management to protect school environments from preventable dangers.
Finally, he highlighted strict adherence to food preparation standards to minimize potential health risks.
The Principal of Lagos State Junior Model College Badore, Mrs. Soyoye Bamidele Oredola, addressed the importance of effective communication.
She encouraged house masters and caregivers to be attentive listeners and proactive problem-solvers for the students under their care.
Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also contributed significantly to the training.
Engr. Olukotun Odunayo and Mrs. Bosede Akanni provided practical demonstrations on critical emergency procedures, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), evacuation protocols, fire prevention methods, proper use of fire extinguishers, and assembly point management.
Participants at the programme received training materials and signages designed to help implement safety protocols in their respective schools.
The initiative is expected to cascade knowledge across various Lagos State Model Colleges, ensuring a safer environment for all students.
This training underscores the Lagos State government’s proactive approach to safeguarding its educational institutions and fostering a culture of safety awareness among school staff and stakeholders.
