Telecom workers killing by terrorists

Three workers of a major telecommunication company, have been killed by suspected members of Lakurawa terrorist group in Kebbi State.

The killing comes just days after the terror group gunned down two police officers also in the State.

The attack occurred at a construction site in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area, where the victims were working on the installation of a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Another individual, whose identity has not been confirmed, was also killed in the sad incident.

While initial police reports identified the victims as staff of Airtel, local sources claimed they were immigration officers.

A staff member at Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital, where the bodies were deposited, corroborated the locals’ account, saying the deceased were immigration personnel.

SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesman of the command in Kebbi in a statement clarified that four people lost their lives in the attack, including one local resident and three Airtel workers.

“Upon receiving the report, Kebbi State Police Commissioner Bello M. Sani and Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, Muhammad Bashir Lawali, led a team to evacuate the bodies to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

“The Commissioner has since deployed additional tactical units to the area, instructing them to take decisive action against the bandits.

“He also met with community members, urging them to provide timely information to security agencies to aid in their operations”, the statement reads.
