AC Milan produced a remarkable second-half comeback at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, fighting back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Lazio in an entertaining Serie A encounter.

Lazio appeared to be in complete control during the opening half, taking a two-goal advantage through Matteo Cancellieri and an own goal from Milan defender Koni De Winter. However, everything changed after the interval as substitute Diego Moreira came off the bench and transformed the match with two goals in the space of just two minutes.

The result will feel like a missed opportunity for Lazio, who were in a commanding position after an impressive first-half performance. For Milan, however, the comeback could prove significant as Ruben Amorim’s side showed character after struggling badly before the break.

Lazio Make Fast Start

Lazio started the match with greater intensity and quickly put Milan under pressure. Gennaro Gattuso’s side attacked with pace, particularly through the wide areas, while Milan struggled to establish control in midfield.

The pressure eventually produced the opening goal in the 10th minute.

Nuno Tavares created the opportunity from the left, finding Mattia Zaccagni, who delivered a dangerous low cross into the Milan penalty area. Matteo Cancellieri reacted quickly and finished past the Milan defence to give Lazio a deserved 1-0 lead.

Milan struggled to respond after conceding. Luka Modric, Adrien Rabiot and the rest of the midfield found it difficult to create consistent attacking movements as Lazio continued to exploit space on the flanks.

Mike Maignan was forced into an important save in the 21st minute after Lazio created another promising attack involving Tijjani Noslin, Davide Frattesi and Zaccagni.

Milan’s problems continued as the first half progressed.

De Winter Own Goal Gives Lazio Two-Goal Lead

Lazio doubled their advantage in the 39th minute, although the goal was ultimately recorded as an own goal by Milan defender Koni De Winter.

Once again, the move developed from the left. Tavares played the ball towards Kenan Taylor, who sent a dangerous delivery into the six-yard area.

Noslin was well positioned and attempted to finish the opportunity. His effort struck the crossbar before De Winter, attempting to clear the danger, inadvertently directed the ball into his own net.

The goal gave Lazio a 2-0 lead going into the interval and left Milan facing a major challenge after an underwhelming first half.

Amorim Changes the Game

Ruben Amorim reacted immediately at halftime, making three changes that completely altered the momentum of the contest.

Christian Pulisic, Diego Moreira and Yunus Musah were introduced, with Milan suddenly looking much more aggressive and energetic in possession.

The changes allowed Milan to push Lazio deeper and attack from both wings. The Rossoneri began creating chances and looked nothing like the team that had struggled during the opening 45 minutes.

Their pressure finally paid off in the 65th minute.

Pulisic delivered a dangerous ball towards the far post, where Moreira arrived at the right moment to finish and reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The goal immediately changed the atmosphere around the match.

Moreira Completes Stunning Comeback

Just two minutes later, Moreira struck again.

In the 67th minute, Adrien Rabiot played the ball towards Moreira around the edge of the penalty area. The Portuguese forward controlled the opportunity before producing a composed left-footed finish to beat the Lazio goalkeeper.

From 2-0 down, Milan had suddenly levelled the match at 2-2.

Moreira’s quickfire double turned him into the clear difference-maker of the contest. His introduction gave Milan the directness and attacking energy they had lacked during the first half, while Pulisic and Musah also helped increase the tempo.

Milan Push for Winner

After equalising, Milan continued to look dangerous and arguably finished the match as the stronger side.

Lazio attempted to regain control, with Gattuso urging his players to remain composed after seeing a two-goal advantage disappear within minutes.

Milan, however, continued to create opportunities. Cissé came close in the 77th minute with a dangerous effort, while Lazio had to defend more carefully as the visitors searched for a winning goal.

Neither side could find the decisive third goal before the final whistle.

The match therefore ended Lazio 2-2 AC Milan, with both teams taking a point from a game that had looked completely different at halftime.

For Lazio, the result will raise questions about how a two-goal lead was surrendered. For Milan, the comeback provides encouragement, particularly because the team showed the ability to respond strongly after a poor first half.

Most importantly, Diego Moreira emerged as the hero of Milan’s comeback, scoring twice in two minutes to rescue a valuable point in Rome.
