Legacy Lives On As Foundation Empowers Widows In Memory Of Chief Ekuogbe Akpodiete

UGHELLI, DELTA STATE – The Olotu and Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation has marked the 31st remembrance of Late Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete with a widow empowerment program aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community.

The foundation, in collaboration with family members, organized the event on April 9, 2026, at Iwhreko Community Town Hall in Ughelli, drawing participation from dignitaries and community stakeholders.

Hon. Dr. Olotu Akpodiete, Executive Director of the foundation, delivered a welcome address where he reaffirmed the family’s commitment to sustaining the legacy of their late father through impactful initiatives.

He stated that the foundation focuses on sustainable development, education, healthcare, security, and empowerment programs across communities.

The empowerment initiative benefited over 100 widows from Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Local Government Areas, who received cash support, clothing materials, and other gifts.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely support that would help ease economic challenges.

Dr. Olotu Akpodiete described the late Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete as a trailblazer and a man of integrity, noting that he was the first qualified lawyer of Ughelli descent.

He emphasized that the late patriarch’s humility, principles, and dedication to community service continue to inspire the family’s initiatives.

The Special Guest of Honour, Olorogun Miller Uloho, praised the contributions of the late chief to Iwhreko, Ughelli Kingdom, Delta State, and Nigeria.

He stated that the legacy of Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete remains worthy of emulation by present and future generations.

Other dignitaries, including Chief Dr. Morrison Obaseki Olori, urged the family to remain united and continue promoting the values and achievements of their late father.

During the event, Olorogun Osia Akpodiete presented Life Achievement Awards to distinguished personalities in recognition of their service to humanity.

The ceremony also featured the second edition of a novelty football match held at Clifford Cassidy Playground, popularly known as General Field.

The match, played between the children and grandchildren of the late chief, ended in a 1-1 draw, reflecting a spirit of unity and celebration.

Dr. Olotu Akpodiete explained that the football event aims to encourage youth participation in sports and develop young talents within the community.

He assured attendees that both the empowerment program and the novelty match would become annual events to extend their impact to more beneficiaries.

Chief Mrs. Grace Akpodiete and Olorogun Osia Akpodiete presented cash gifts to team captains, demonstrating support for youth development initiatives.

Observers noted that the combined activities reflect a growing trend of using remembrance events to drive community development and social impact.

They concluded that the foundation’s efforts highlight the enduring influence of legacy-driven philanthropy in fostering unity, empowerment, and sustainable progress in Delta State.
