‘Let Heaven Fall’: Wike Vows to Continue Demolitions

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has sparked controversy with his vow to continue demolishing properties in the nation’s capital, despite mounting pressure to halt the exercise.

Wike’s stance has been met with fierce criticism from various quarters. With many accusing him of being insensitive to the plight of affected residents and property owners. However, the minister remains resolute, insisting that the demolitions are necessary to restore order and sanity to the FCT.

According to Wike, the structures being demolished are properties illegally built on government lands. And that his administration will not be swayed by blackmail or intimidation. “Let heaven fall,” he declared, emphasizing his determination to continue the demolitions despite opposition.

The minister’s comments have been interpreted by many as a clear indication of his administration’s commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining the master plan of the FCT. However, others have expressed concerns that the demolitions may be politically motivated, targeting specific individuals or groups.

The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has been carrying out the demolitions. With several properties already razed to the ground. The exercise has left many residents and property owners counting their losses. With some accusing the FCDA of not following due process.

One of the affected property owners, Vincent Enoghase, General Manager of Paullosa Nigeria Limited, claimed that the FCDA had demanded N10 million for a Right of Occupancy. Which the company had paid, but was yet to receive before the issuance of the quit notice.

The controversy surrounding the demolitions has also attracted the attention of the Senate. Which has set up a probe panel to investigate the exercise. The Senate’s intervention has been seen as a welcome development by many, who hope that it will help to address the concerns of affected residents and property owners.

In conclusion, the demolitions in the FCT have sparked a heated debate, with opinions sharply divided on the issue.
