Chief Edwin Clark was a renowned Nigerian Ijaw leader and politician from Delta State, born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, an Ijaw community.

He had a remarkable career spanning over five decades, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political landscape.

Early Life and Education
Clark attended primary and secondary schools at Effurun, Okrika, and Afugbene before completing further studies at the Government Teacher Training College, which later became Delta State University, Abraka .

He later traveled to the United Kingdom to earn a law degree.

Politics and Career
Clark’s involvement in politics began during the pre-independence period when he was elected as Councillor for Bomadi in 1953.

He later joined the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) and was active in the West African Students’ Union while studying in the UK.

Clark worked with the administrations of military governor Samuel Ogbemudia and head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, between 1966 and 1975 .

He was appointed Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975 and later became an unofficial adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Achievements and Legacy
Clark was a philanthropist who founded the Edwin Clark Foundation and established Edwin Clark University in 2015 .

He was also the founder of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), an organization that aims to promote the development and security of the Niger Delta region.

Advocacy and Activism

Clark has been a vocal advocate for the rights and interests of the Niger Delta region.

He has consistently pushed for the development and empowerment of the region, often challenging the federal government to address the area’s environmental and socio-economic challenges.
