Protests have continued to rock Los Angeles amid rising tensions over immigration raids and the controversial deployment of federal forces.

Streets have been blocked, fires set, and confrontations between protesters and law enforcement have intensified as the situation enters its fourth day.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) and other eyewitness reports, officers used flash-bang grenades and tear gas to disperse crowds across downtown Los Angeles.

Protesters were seen being hit and shoved during arrests.

The unrest has resulted in fires being set in multiple locations, including at least two Waymo self-driving cars that were torched during demonstrations.

Law enforcement has now declared all of downtown Los Angeles an unlawful assembly zone.

Authorities are enforcing curfews and heavily restricting movement within the city center.

Federal deployment:

Approximately 300 National Guard troops are now positioned throughout Los Angeles.

This move came after President Donald Trump ordered their deployment to protect federal property and personnel amid the rising civil unrest.

It marks the first time in decades that a sitting president has activated the National Guard in a state without the governor’s formal request or approval.

In addition to the Guard, 500 U.S. Marines have also been placed on alert.

They are ready to be deployed if the situation deteriorates further.

Trump vs. Newsom:

California Governor Gavin Newsom has strongly condemned the federal intervention.

He labeled it “inflammatory and unconstitutional.”

He announced plans to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration for bypassing state authority.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined him in calling for the immediate withdrawal of federal troops.

She argued that their presence is escalating tensions rather than calming them.

Why are there protests?

The protests began after dozens of undocumented immigrants were detained in a series of federal immigration raids.

These operations occurred in neighborhoods including Compton, Boyle Heights, and South Gate.

Many demonstrators say they are protesting the aggressive tactics used by immigration agents.

Intelligence analysts also note that some elements within the protest groups fit the profile of what authorities describe as “professional rioters.”

This suggests a mixture of spontaneous outrage and organized agitation.

As protests continue and political tensions rise, the city remains on edge.

Leaders and residents alike are calling for de-escalation, accountability, and protection of civil liberties.
