Liverpool are through to the Europa League final after beating Villarreal 3-0 at Anfield on Thursday night.
Also, Kevin Gameiro struck twice as Sevilla booked their place in the Europa League final for the third straight year with a 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
How it happened:
Bruno own goal gave Reds seventh-minute lead. Sturridge netted on 63 minutes to put Liverpool in front on aggregate.
Ruiz was sent off on 71 for a second yellow card for the visitors. Lallana swept in Liverpool’s third to seal the win.
Reds will play Sevilla in Basel on May 18 for the trophy.
The Europa League semi-final second leg, at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan saw Sevilla beat Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1:
Sevilla 3 (Gameiro 9, 47, Mariano 59); Shakhtar Donetsk 1 (Eduardo 44) (Sevilla win 5-3 on aggregate)
The Spaniards go through 5-3 on aggregate to set up a clash with Liverpool with their star striker again the making the difference after scoring early on.
The Ukraine side pulled level on the stroke of half-time through former Arsenal forward Eduardo.
But Unai Emery’s men soon hit back through another fine strike from Gameiro for his 28th goal of the season.
And they made sure of progressing courtesy of Mariano’s long-range strike to remain on course for a third straight Europa League crown.
Sevilla face Jurgen Klopp’s side in Basel on May 18th after the Reds saw off Villareal in the other semi-final.
