Liverpool FC of Eket wins Eket Federal Constituency Unity Cup

The grand finale of the Eket Federal Constituency Unity Cup Championship sponsored by Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, Akwa Ibom State Representative in the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), ended on Monday, with Liverpool Football Club of Eket lifting the trophy.

The champions defeated Achan Bombers of Ibeno 4-2 on penalties after the match ended in a 0:0 stalemate in normal time and extra time.
Both teams exhibited excellent skills, tenacity and zeal to win the pulsating encounter held at Primary School, Okon, Eket.

Speaking after the thrilling encounter, Apostle Nkono congratulated both teams for emerging as the finalists of the edition of the tournament, the organizers, coaching crew and all participating teams from the various local government areas.
He also acknowledged the support of the Okon Clan Council headed by the Clan Head, His Highness Akpabio Ekpoton.
The NDDC State Representative assured that the tournament would be sustained to help in forging unity and talent discovery.

Medals
“God Almighty has made it possible for the competition to come to a successful end without rancour or violence. This is an assurance this good and noble initiative shall be sustained to the glory of God. Through this tournament, global talents shall be discovered. Thank you for making this edition a success,’’ he said.
Nkono presented the gold trophy to the winning team and medals to both finalists.
Individual awards were also presented.
His Highness Akpabio Ekpoton, in his remarks, hailed the sponsor for always “being a true advocate of grassroots unity and development.”
The royal father cautioned the players youth restiveness and vices.
On his part, Coach Mfreke B. Etang, Chairman, Eket Federal Constituency Grassroot Coaches Association, said the tournament demonstrates “Eket Federal Constituency are peace loving, Sport in general and football in particular is a unifying factor and to the socio-security challenges that has bedeviled our nation in recent time.”
Okon FC won the third-place encounter.
