Logan Paul’s Pikachu Illustrator Sets All-Time Trading Card Auction Record

A copy of the ultra-rare Pikachu Illustrator owned by Logan Paul has officially sold for $16,492,000, establishing a new benchmark in the collectibles market.

Auction officials confirmed the sale not only set the record for the highest price ever paid for a Pokémon card, but also became the most expensive trading card of any kind to be sold at auction.

The Pikachu Illustrator card occupies a near-mythical place among collectors. Originally distributed as a prize to winners of illustration contests held in Japan in the late 1990s, far fewer copies exist compared with standard release cards. Its scarcity, combined with its special artwork and historical importance to the Pokémon brand, has made it one of the hobby’s ultimate grails.

Paul purchased his example privately before prominently showcasing it to a global audience. The card became even more famous after he wore it around his neck during his high-profile boxing appearance at WrestleMania 38, instantly exposing millions of viewers to a piece that many collectors may never see in person.

Interest in elite trading cards has surged over the past decade, with rare items moving from niche hobby circles into mainstream investment conversations. High-profile buyers, social media exposure, and major auction houses have all contributed to dramatic price increases.

With this result, the Pikachu Illustrator further cements its reputation as one of the most desirable and culturally significant cards ever produced. Collectors say the sale could influence future valuations for other ultra-rare Pokémon items and top-tier sports and entertainment cards.
