Make Laws That Is Child Friendly FG Tells States

The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has urged the state governors to adopt laws that will help protect the Nigerian children.

He made the call in Lafia Nasarawa State, on Saturday at an event marking the Children’s Day Celebration, which is usually done every 27th May of each year.

Osinbajo urged state governors to adopt laws and policies that would bring an end to violence against children and other cultural practices that hinder their development.

He made the call while speaking on the theme of the celebration, “Child Protection and the Sustainable Development Goals: Issues and Opportunities”.

The Acting President, was represented at the occasion by the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr Bamaiyi Anangba,

Mr Bamaiyi Anangba, also represented the state Governor Tanko Al-Makura at the occasion.

 According to the Acting President the federal government is committed to ensuring that the rights of the Nigerian child are protected.

He also used the occasion to inform the listeners that the federal government is providing one free nutritional meal to over 1, 274,620 pupils in 9,212 schools in nine states of the federation under its Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

 “As a country and as a government, we cannot afford to delay efforts that will ensure protection and development of our children through preventive approaches,” he stated.

He then after, thanked the security agencies for protecting lives and urged them to do more, while urging them to protect Nigerian children against danger and violence in line with the provision of extant laws.
