Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has celebrated her 68th birthday with a lively celebration that gave fans a glimpse of a much softer side of the screen icon.
Ozokwor turned 68 on September 14, 2026, and a video from her birthday celebration circulating online captured the actress smiling, dancing and enjoying the moment with friends, family and well-wishers.
In the video, the veteran actress appeared relaxed as she danced to music in the compound of a multi-storey building, while people around her clapped, danced and recorded the celebration on their phones.
Dressed in a long gown, colourful wrappers draped over her shoulders and dark sunglasses, Ozokwor appeared in high spirits as the gathering celebrated her new age.
At one point, those around her could be heard singing “Happy birthday, happy birthday, we love you” as the actress continued to enjoy the celebration.
The footage has attracted attention partly because of the contrast between Ozokwor’s real-life personality and many of the characters that made her famous.
For decades, the actress has been one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces, particularly for portraying strict mothers, formidable mothers-in-law, villains and intimidating women in popular Nigerian films.
However, her birthday celebration presented a different picture, showing the veteran actress laughing, dancing and enjoying herself away from the stern characters audiences have often associated with her.
Born on September 14, 1958, in Ngwo, Enugu State, Ozokwor studied Fine and Applied Arts at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu. She began her professional career as a broadcaster with Radio Nigeria before transitioning into television and film.
Her acting career gained wider attention following her appearance in the 1999 film Authority, after which she became a familiar face in Nollywood.
Over the years, her performances have earned her industry recognition, including a Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2013. In 2023, she was also honoured with the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for her contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
Beyond acting, Ozokwor has remained active in sharing personal reflections and messages with her supporters, whom she affectionately refers to as “MamaG Lovers.”
As she marked another year, the actress used the occasion to express gratitude to God for life, good health and a sound mind while appreciating those who have continued to support her career.
For many fans, however, it was the birthday video that offered the most memorable glimpse of Mama G — not as the strict mother-in-law or intimidating woman from Nollywood films, but simply as Patience Ozokwor enjoying her special day.
