The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards brought together some of television’s biggest stars in Los Angeles as the industry celebrated standout performances, series and creative achievements from the past year.
The ceremony delivered several notable wins, with The Pitt taking home the coveted Outstanding Drama Series award, while Widow’s Bay emerged as the winner of Outstanding Comedy Series.
In the limited or anthology category, DTF St. Louis claimed the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series prize, adding another major honour to the night’s list of winners.
The Traitors also secured victory in the Outstanding Reality Competition Programme category, beating other popular reality television shows including Dancing With the Stars, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Survivor and Top Chef.
The awards also recognised individual performances across drama, comedy and limited-series categories.
Noah Wyle won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt, while Rhea Seehorn took home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus.
In comedy, Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor for Widow’s Bay, while Jean Smart was recognised as Outstanding Lead Actress for Hacks.
The limited-series and movie categories also produced notable victories, with Matthew Rhys winning Outstanding Lead Actor for The Beast in Me, while Sally Field was named Outstanding Lead Actress for Remarkably Bright Creatures.
Behind the scenes, Pluribus creator Vince Gilligan won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, while Katie Dippold picked up the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award for Widow’s Bay.
Directing honours also went toc for Slow Horses in the drama category and Hiro Murai for Widow’s Bay in comedy.
Meanwhile, Linda Cardellini won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for DTF St. Louis.
In the variety category, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert emerged victorious, defeating programmes including The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Saturday Night Live.
The 78th Emmys also gave audiences plenty to talk about beyond the awards themselves, as celebrities including Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Supriya Ganesh, Meg Stalter and Sarah Pidgeon brought their individual fashion statements to the blue carpet.
Meg Stalter particularly attracted attention after arriving dressed as a golden Emmy statuette, turning her red-carpet appearance into one of the evening’s most memorable fashion moments.
With major wins for The Pitt, Widow’s Bay, DTF St. Louis, Pluribus, Hacks and The Traitors, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards delivered a night filled with surprises, celebrated performances and plenty of moments for television fans to remember.
