Man arrested for cloning DSS website, posting fake recruitment notice

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigria has arrested a 32-year-old blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for allegedly cloning the agency’s website and creating a fake online recruitment notice.

Diaspora Digital Media understands that Augustus, a native of Abak Local Government Area in Akwa-Ibom State, was arrested at his residence on Akpan Eno Lane in Abak, Abak LGA, on Thursday.

According to available reports, Augustus had created a fake recruitment notice on the cloned website, informing Nigerians that the DSS was recruiting.

The notice allegedly contained details of the recruitment process, including requirements and deadlines.

The DSS promptly tagged the post as “fake” and cautioned the public not to fall victim to the scam.

Augustus claimed to be a graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) and a blogger and content creator.

It is unclear what motivated him to create the fake recruitment notice, but it is believed that he intended to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The suspect will soon be arraigned in court, where he will face charges related to cybercrime and fraud. If convicted, he could face significant fines and imprisonment.
