Share this:

A 38-year-old British man, Martyn Latchman, died shortly after undergoing a hair transplant in Istanbul, Turkey.

He received the procedure at the Cinik Clinic, located in Besiktas, which boasts a 4.8-star rating on Google.

Shortly after the surgery, Latchman experienced severe complications and was rushed to the hospital.

Despite emergency efforts, he died earlier this week, prompting Turkish authorities to launch an urgent investigation.

The Istanbul Province Health Directorate has opened a case of reckless homicide related to the incident.

Officials have already questioned both staff and doctors at the clinic about the medical procedures involved.

Latchman’s body has since returned to the UK, where loved ones are mourning his unexpected death.

Family and friends posted emotional tributes on social media, describing him as kind, driven, and selfless.

He worked as Assistant Headteacher at Goldington Academy between 2016 and 2024, also leading the Computer Science department.

In 2024, he left the school and joined a private defence contractor in Northampton as a network administrator.

Latchman held a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from De Montfort University.

He also completed a Master’s in Education from the University of Bedfordshire.

Beyond his career, Latchman was passionate about fitness and charity.

In December 2022, he ran 10km daily from the 1st to Christmas Day.

Through that effort, he raised £1,870 for Tree of Hope, a charity that supports critically ill children.

His primary reason for fundraising was to help a sick five-year-old son of a childhood friend in Wales.

As tragic as his death is, it also raises serious concerns about medical tourism and safety standards abroad.

Turkey remains a popular destination for cosmetic surgery due to its significantly lower costs compared to the UK.

However, recent deaths and botched surgeries have triggered growing scrutiny of the country’s booming aesthetic clinics.

Latchman’s story now joins a list of cautionary tales for those seeking budget-friendly procedures outside their home countries.
