Reports reveal that the community has faced ongoing theft and damage to electrical wires from their transformer.
The Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this tragic incident in a statement on Saturday.
Odutola explained that the deceased climbed into the transformer enclosure, where he was electrocuted while attempting to cut a wire.
The chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, reported the incident to the police.
At approximately 10:20 a.m. on Friday, Ajagbe informed the police about the community’s struggles with repeated theft and damage to their transformer.
Earlier that morning, he received a call urging him to check the transformer.
Accompanied by other community executives, Ajagbe found the lifeless body of the unidentified man near the transformer.
It was clear that he had been electrocuted while trying to cut the wires.
Furthermore, Odutola stated that detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate and collect evidence.
Upon receiving the report, detectives arrived at the scene, conducted a preliminary investigation, and took photographs.
They also contacted the PHCN office for assistance.
The corpse was subsequently removed and taken to the General Hospital in Ifo for autopsy.
The police have assured the public of their ongoing commitment to combat vandalism and protect community resources effectively.
