The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Lekan Lasisi, in connection with the death of his stepbrother following a dispute over a ₦4,000 debt in the Abule Tuntun area of Odeda Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on December 19, 2025, after an argument between the brothers reportedly escalated into a fatal confrontation.

According to police sources, the dispute stemmed from the deceased’s recurring debts, which Lasisi said had drawn repeated demands from creditors and brought embarrassment to the family.

During the altercation, the deceased allegedly brandished a cutlass. Lasisi, who described himself as a local hunter, said he produced a firearm in response. He claimed the weapon discharged accidentally, striking his stepbrother and causing fatal injuries.

In a video of his interrogation that circulated on social media, Lasisi said he had confronted his brother after being approached by one of the deceased’s creditors at a bus stop over the unpaid ₦4,000.

He maintained that he had no intention of killing his stepbrother, insisting the gunshot was accidental.

“When the gun went off, I rushed to him immediately. I did not plan to kill my brother,” he said.

Lasisi appealed for leniency, citing family hardship, including his elderly mother’s health and the illness of another sibling.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babseyi Oluseyi, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.

“The incident occurred on December 19 and has been referred to the SCID for detailed investigation,” the police spokesperson said.
