Manchester United get massive injury boost ahead of Brentford showdown

(DDM) – Manchester United have received another major lift on the fitness front with confirmation that Diogo Dalot has resumed full training ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford on Saturday.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the Portuguese full-back, who had been one of the most consistent players in Ruben Amorim’s side this season, returns just in time to ease defensive worries before the crucial away tie.

Dalot’s injury occurred earlier this month while on international duty with Portugal, forcing him to withdraw from World Cup qualifiers against Armenia and Hungary. The setback sidelined him from United’s heavy derby defeat to Manchester City and their dramatic 2-1 win over Chelsea.

In his absence, Amorim had been forced to rotate between makeshift defensive options, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and academy prospect Harry Amass covering the right-back position. Analysts note that Dalot’s return will restore balance to United’s backline, as his overlapping runs and ability to transition quickly from defence to attack have been critical to the team’s play.

Dalot had featured in every match this season before the injury interruption, underscoring his importance in Amorim’s tactical setup. His return therefore represents a timely boost as United aim to strengthen their push up the Premier League table.

While Casemiro remains suspended following his red card against Chelsea, Amorim’s injury list has now significantly reduced. Lisandro Martinez remains the only long-term absentee, still recovering from knee surgery he underwent in February.

The Argentine defender has nonetheless resumed light training at Carrington and continues to be involved in team meetings, which Amorim described as a reflection of his leadership. “Even when not playing, Lisandro brings energy, discipline, and focus to the group,” the United boss said, praising the centre-back’s resilience and commitment.

The timing of Dalot’s return is particularly important as Brentford, despite their sluggish start to the season under new coach Keith Andrews, remain a dangerous opponent at home. Last season’s meeting between both sides at the Gtech Community Stadium ended in a thrilling 4-3 victory for Brentford, a result still fresh in the memory of United fans.

Andrews, who took over managerial duties earlier this summer, has overseen just one win in the Bees’ opening five league matches, with his side struggling for both consistency and defensive solidity. United are widely tipped to capitalise on their opponents’ rocky form, though Amorim has warned against complacency.

“Brentford are a team that can punish mistakes quickly,” the United manager said during a midweek interview. “We cannot forget what happened last season. Our focus is on discipline, balance, and execution.”

United enter the fixture buoyed by their narrow but vital victory over Chelsea, a match that saw Casemiro score the winner before being dismissed late on. That contest also marked the long-awaited returns of Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha, who both made substitute appearances after extended spells on the sidelines.

Mount’s creativity and Cunha’s attacking versatility offer Amorim fresh options in midfield and attack, further boosting United’s confidence going into Saturday’s game. With Dalot now back, Amorim will have greater flexibility in team selection, especially in balancing defensive duties with attacking intent.

Fans have expressed optimism that United’s injury crisis, which plagued much of last season, may finally be easing at a critical point in the campaign. Social media reactions celebrated Dalot’s recovery, with supporters highlighting his improved consistency since Amorim’s appointment.

Football pundits also note that United’s reduced injury list could help them build momentum in both domestic and European competitions. “When United have a fit squad, they look like a completely different team,” said former player Rio Ferdinand on his podcast.

Meanwhile, INEC-style fixture congestion looms on the horizon, with United set to play three matches in eight days after Brentford, including their next Europa League group fixture. Squad depth will therefore be vital if Amorim hopes to maintain form across competitions.

For now, attention remains firmly on Brentford, where United will seek to avoid another defensive collapse and secure a statement victory away from home.
