Manchester United weigh late swoop for Atletico’s Gallagher

(DDM) – Manchester United are reportedly considering a late move to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher before the summer transfer window closes.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered from TBR Football that the English international has caught the attention of the Premier League giants following a series of strong performances in La Liga since his move from Chelsea.

Gallagher’s career trajectory has been impressive, having spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion, and Crystal Palace before his breakthrough season at Chelsea. His ability to adapt to different systems and his consistent work rate have made him an attractive option for clubs seeking midfield reinforcements.

Sources indicate that Manchester United view Gallagher as a cost-effective alternative to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, whose transfer fee is reportedly proving difficult to negotiate.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that several Premier League clubs are monitoring Gallagher’s situation closely as the Monday deadline approaches.

For Manchester United, midfield depth has become a critical issue, especially as the club looks to compete across multiple fronts this season under manager Ruben Amorim.

However, the potential arrival of Gallagher may cast doubts over the future of United’s academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo, highly regarded by fans and seen as one of the club’s most promising young players, has yet to feature in the Premier League this season.

His limited involvement during pre-season also suggests that Amorim does not currently view him as a key part of his first-team plans.

Gallagher, who reportedly earns around £200,000 per week, brings significant experience from both domestic and international football, having become a regular member of England’s squad.

His dynamic style, defensive work rate, and ability to link play between midfield and attack are attributes United desperately need as they aim to stabilize their midfield options.

Yet, should United finalize the deal, questions will inevitably arise about how Gallagher’s arrival could affect squad balance, particularly concerning Mainoo’s development and opportunities.

With the summer transfer window closing in a matter of days, Manchester United must act decisively to secure Gallagher’s services and strengthen their midfield for the upcoming campaign.
