Over 19 civilians have been reportedly killed after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), suspected to be planted by Boko Haram terrorists, detonated at a local eatery in Kawuri village, Konduga local government area of Borno State on Wednesday.
The unfortunate incident occurred around 8:5pm at a tea joint where villagers usually gather in the evening.
The explosion also caused additional injuries to scores of people. Victims were evacuated to a hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.
Meanwhile, the incident follows a separate attack on a police formation in Jakana town within the same LGA three days ago, where terrorists killed a police operative and a woman and set two operational vans ablaze.
Furthermore, an accountant from the local education authority in Damboa local government area, Shettima Mustapha, was killed the previous day when his vehicle hit an IED along the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu highway.
Police in Borno state are yet to issues a statement in respect to the development.
