The Management of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, has announced the take-off of a Students’ Support Scheme for needy students.

The Management of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, has announced the take-off of a Students’ Support Scheme for needy students.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, made this known in a statement in Yola.

“No educationally sound student of this university shall be denied education service based solely upon lack of money.” Mohammed said.

Mohammed, who is the chairman of the 15 board of trustees for the scheme, said for a student to qualify for the support, such student must fulfill 11 conditions.

Mohammed said such students must be recommended by a staff and supported by the candidate’s Head of Department and must not be benefitting from a similar fund.

“The student must not have been involved in any case of examination malpractice or misconduct in the university.

“Has other special existing circumstances which warrant the issuing of assistance.

“Should maintain a minimum of 1.50/5.00 GPA at the end of the session in order to continue to benefit from the fund and must register for not less than 16 units per semester.”

Mohammed, who called for support for the scheme, said the scheme would be funded from percentages of profits made by the university consultancy services and guest houses.

Other sources of support listed by the vice chancellor included donations from philanthropists, alumni and NGOs.

The vice chancellor who did not give the number of students so far benefitting from the scheme said that a total of N190,000 was involved per student annually under the scheme.
