Fast-emerging Afrobeats act Mavo has reportedly fallen victim to street extortion in Lagos after a tense encounter with suspected hoodlums escalated into violence.

The incident came to light after the artist shared a video via his Snapchat page, showing a group of young men often referred to locally as “area boys” closing in on his vehicle in the Island area. In the footage, one individual is seen aggressively approaching the car and hurling an object at it, while others surround the vehicle shouting.

The clip has since circulated online, drawing attention to ongoing concerns about street-level harassment and extortion in parts of Lagos, particularly in busy urban areas where motorists and public figures are sometimes targeted.
