Melaye’s Certificate Scandal: ABU Zaria Disables Alumni Link
Consequent upon the controversy raging over the certificate of Senator Dino Melaye, the administration of Ahmadu Bello University [ABU], Zaria, has disabled the link of its alumni.
The link, https://alumni.abu.edu.ng/list_record.php, is the access to all alumni of the university which, unfortunately, is no longer accessible as it has been disabled.
Visitors to the said website will find the following information: “Not Found. The requested URL /list_record.php was not found on this server.”
Speculations are rife that the disabling of the link was intentional as they seem to know that Senator Melaye has dragged their famous institution into a fake certificate mud.
Senator Dino Melaye had, on Monday, appeared before Senate Committee on Ethics and Privilege over the certificate scandal to clarify issues with the lawmaking body.
The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University [ABU], Zaria, also appeared before the Senate Committee to lend credence to or deny Melaye’s claim.
According to the Vice Chancellor, however, Senator Melaye graduated from ABU, Zaria, with third class.
The institution of higher learning, though, is yet to intimate Nigerians what prompted the disabling of the link.
Elombah.com had March 25 reported that the Bachelor of Arts certificate purportedly obtained by the senator from the institution is fake.
Preliminary investigations carried out punctured holes in Senator Melaye’s claim that he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts [Geography] certificate.
The famed institution disclosed that it only offers B.Sc. Geography and not B.A. Geography as reflected on Melaye’s statement of results.
The B.Sc. [Bachelor of Science] certificate, by implication, means that ABU offers Geography as a Science subject and not Arts, under Faculty of Science and not Faculty of Arts.
The Senate committee on Ethics and Privileges had vowed to investigate allegations leveled against Melaye over the fake certificate scandal.
Trouble had begun on Monday, March 20, 2017 when Sahara Reporters, an online news medium, in a tweet alleged that the senator did not graduate from ABU for his first degree.
That was against his claim that he studied Geography in the prestigious institution.
