The United States military said it carried out a fresh round of airstrikes on Iran overnight, marking the 12th consecutive night of attacks ordered by President Donald Trump as the conflict between Washington and Tehran continues to escalate.
According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces targeted Iranian military assets, including missile and drone storage facilities, maritime capabilities, coastal surveillance systems and air defence positions.
The operation lasted about five hours, with CENTCOM saying the strikes were aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and regional security.
The latest attacks come as the U.S. intensifies its military campaign, which has included repeated strikes on Iranian military infrastructure and a renewed naval blockade.
The current conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran.
Tehran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
Since then, fighting has spread across the region, with U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, alongside Israeli operations in Lebanon, leaving thousands dead and forcing millions from their homes.
The Pentagon says 18 American service members have been killed since the conflict began.
Trump also warned on Wednesday that the United States would destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant every time Iran attacks a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
He has previously threatened to strike Iran’s energy infrastructure and transport networks.
Iran’s joint military command responded by warning that any attack on its civilian infrastructure would trigger retaliation against oil, gas, electricity and other economic facilities across the region, according to state media.
Legal experts have questioned Trump’s threats, noting that the 1949 Geneva Conventions prohibit attacks on infrastructure essential to civilians.
They argue that deliberately targeting such facilities could amount to war crimes under international humanitarian law.
